Die in Buenos Aires geborene und seit 12 Jahren in Spanien lebende Hyuro ist mit ihren, im öffentlichen Raum angebrachten grossen Wandmalereien, in ganz Westeuropa vertreten und sicherlich kein No-Name mehr. Trotzdem greifen Labels wie Street Art, Urban Art, und Urbex Art als Bezeichnungen für ihren Stil aber definitiv zu kurz, wenn man die überaus vielfältigen Bezüge in ihren Werken sieht.Auch mit der Ausstellung ‘Casual Anomalies’ im Zürcher Starkart, lässt die Künstlerin tief in ihre Gedankenwelt blicken: Intime Darstellungen von menschlichen Wesen, schutzlos ausgeliefert. Einzelne in bedrückender Enge eingeschlossen oder umzingelt. In sich versunkene Körper, dynamisch in Raum und Zeit eingebettet, aber dennoch seltsam verloren in einem anonymen Vakuum dahinschwebend – der Bildraum bleibt undefiniert. Motive von gesichtslosen oder vom Betrachter abgewandten puppenhaften Frauenfiguren, in Gruppen tragisch verflochten. Nur ihre individuelle Einsamkeit als Gemeinsamkeit verbindet sie. Ohne Identität. Ein Bild einer Traumwelt, die längst nicht mehr traumhaft ist.
Reale Bezüge zur heutigen Zeit der politischen Machtstrukturen, grossen demographischen Umwälzungen und der allgemein existenziellen Verunsicherung sind in ihren Werken vakant vorhanden und trotzdem wirken sie wie surreale Artefakte aus vergangenen Zeiten. Die Selbstbestimmung der Gedanken und des Geistes steht in engem Zusammenhang mit der Befreiung von repressiven und archaischen sozialen Systemen. Durch die Emphase solcher Darstellungen gelingt es Hyuro, die Betrachterinnen in eine dystopische Welt zu entreissen.
Ausserdem lassen wiederkehrende Themengruppen erkennen, dass sich die Künstlerin intensiv mit den Subjekten der Emotion beschäftigt. Da Emotionen kulturübergreifend in gleicher Weise erkannt und ausgedrückt werden, verleiht diese Gewichtung ihrem Oeuvre durchaus eine gewisse Universalität ohne in die Trivialität abzugleiten und obschon sie keine offensichtlich moralischen Aussagen macht, sind ihre Werke doch klar im Ausdruck und ihre Formensprache intuitiv verständlich. Formal verfolgt die Künstlerin eine karge Umsetzung ihrer Ideen, zunächst mittels narrativem, illustrativem Element. Dennoch ergibt sich aus der Strenge der Kompositionen eine Art Ikonenhaftigkeit, am Ende aber triumphiert die poetische Präsenz ihrer Werke.

For the first time the already well known artist HYURO from Valencia Spain, visits Switzerland and will conceptualize an Exhibition in place for the Starkart Gallery in Zurich. She is traveling all over the world and has been featured on big Websites and Blogs like Juxtapose, Wooster, Arrestedmotion, Unurth and the likes… We are really keen to see, what she will do with the space here in Zurich.Originating from Bueons Aires, Hyuro has been living in Spain for the last 12 years and with her large wall-based drawings she is now well represented in public spaces throughout western Europe. The many positions and references in her art make it difficult to label her style as Street Art, Urban Art or Urbex Art.
Through her exhibition “Casual Anomalies” in Zurich’s Starkart the artist allows taking further glimpses at the constructs of her mind: Intimate portrayals of the human being, isolated in breathless confinement. Although her bodies are dynamically embedded in space and time, they remain in the unnamed vacuum of the indefinite image.Features and faces are hidden from the spectator, puppet-like figures tragically intertwined, belong to one and another only through the solitude of their selves, without identity they hover. The concept of a dream that is dream no more.
Her works contain current references to the structures and dynamics of political power, great social changes and also the common existentialist insecurities. The independence of thought and spirit is closely linked to the liberation from repressive and archaic social systems. Through the perception of these scenes Hyuro carries away the spectators into a world of dystopia.
Recurring groupings of topics reveal the artist’s intense study of emotions and their subject. Using emotions that are expressed and perceived across cultures in the same way, her Oeuvre is given a certain universality beyond the shallowness of triviality. Without obvious moral statements her works, still remain clear in expression through the use of an intuitive language of forms. Hyuro has pursued a stringent realisation of her concepts, relying on a narrative and illustrative component. The iconic touch resulting from her compositions’ strictness gives way to the poetic presence of her works.
