They appear on street posts, dustbins, facades, on art in public spaces, historic buildings and religious institutions. No surface in urban areas is safe from them. For years, they cover most suburbs and inner cities, destroy their proper image and cost a fortune to clean.
But have you ever imagined today’s cities without tags and graffiti ? Who knows actually exactly what is the meaning of TAGS? And what happens culturally and symbolically, if TAGS are suddenly displayed on a advertising poster? The exhibition offers an encounter with the misunderstood character of TAGS and a speculative view to their future development.

Sie sind anonym. Sie sind viral. Ohne Rücksicht wird jede Oberfläche im urbanen Raum verunstaltet. In einer sinnentleerten postmodernen Zeit zerstören TAGS das saubere Image der Stadt. Ein Sinnbild dafür, wie sich unsere Kultur unaufhaltsam und erratisch ausbreitet. Gleichzeitig befindet sich die kritische Kunst in einer offensichtlichen Krise: sie hält nicht was sie verspricht. Könnten TAGS aus dieser Situation einen Ausweg bieten?

STARKART versucht mit der Ausstellung „OFFSPACE – Spekulative Spurensuche“, mögliche Antworten auf diese Fragen zu finden. Sie beleuchtet den Kreislauf die jede (Sub)kultur früher oder später durchläuft: Entstehung, Vermarktung und Auflösung. Von TAGS zu #hashtags.

Die Ausstellung ermöglicht in erster Linie eine neue Sichtweise auf TAGS aber auch auf zeitgenössische Kunst und Kultur. Um in unserem digital beschleunigten Zeitalter sinnvolle Kunst zu entwerfen zu können, die der inneren kulturellen Aushöhlung entgegenwirkt, muss man – statt sich in der immer leereren Selbstreflektionsschleife des Korrelationismus zu drehen….SPEKULATIV sein!

Jugendworkshop, öffentliche Führung und Filmscreening
Die erste Vernissage am 28. August 2015 präsentiert Teil 1 ENTSTEHUNG. 
Am 5. September, in der langen Nacht der Museen, gibts ein Filmscreening zum Thema.
 Am 11. September, wird Teil 2 VERMARKTUNG eröffnet. Dazu gibts eine öffentliche Führung durch die Ausstellung, durchgeführt von Catherine Eisendle, als auch eine Filmvorführung. Das Finale ist Teil 3 AUFLÖSUNG.

In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Verein Home of Arts ein zweitägiger Workshop für Jugendliche ab 12 Jahren unter dem Motto „Tag und Throw-Ups“ angeboten. Workshop Samstag und Sonntag, 19. und 20. September 2015. Jeweils 13 Uhr bis 16 Uhr.

They are anonymous.They are viral. They deface any surface in urban areas regardless. In a meaningless postmodern time TAGS destroy the neat picture of the city. A symbol of how inexorably and erratic our culture is spreading across the globe. At the same time the critical art is in a apparent crisis: it does not deliver what it promises. Could TAGS offer a way out of this situation?

STARKART wants to find possible answers to these questions with the exhibition” Offspace – Speculative Tracing”. It highlights the cycle which every (sub)culture, sooner or later is going thru: creation, marketing and resolution. From TAGS to #hashtags.

The exhibition enables a new way of looking at TAGS and contemporary art as well.
To be able to create meaningful art in our highly commercialized and digital accelerated era – rather than rotate in the never ending void of the self-reflection loop… means to be SPECULATIVE!

Workshop, public tours and movie screening
The first opening on August 28, presents Part1 “CREATION”. On September 5. the Long Night of Museums, a film screening, plus a special event are planned. On September 11., Part2 “MARKETING” a second opening is celebrated. At this time a public tour is conducted by Catherine Eisendle through the exhibition and film screening will. On the 25. September, Part3 “DISINTEGRATION”, is at the same time the end of of the exhibition.
In collaboration with the Association of Arts Home, (HOA), a two-day workshop for young people aged 12 years is offered under the slogan “TAGS and THROW UPS”. Saturday and Sunday 19. and 20. September 2015 both 13 clock to 16 clock.

While often in disagreement over basic philosophical issues, the speculative realist thinkers have a shared resistance to philosophies of human finitude inspired by the tradition of Immanuel Kant. We want to overcome correlationism and philosophies of access. Philosophies of access are any of those philosophies which privilege the human being over other entities. Both ideas represent forms of anthropocentrism.

Since its first appearance at a London colloquium in 2007, the Speculative Realism movement has taken continental philosophy by storm. Opposing the formerly ubiquitous modern dogma that philosophy can speak only of the human-world relation rather than the world itself, speculative realism defends the autonomy of the world from human access, but in a spirit of imaginative audacity.

Speculative Realism Pathfinder

Speculative Realism ist eine vorläufige Sammelbezeichung für eine sehr junge philosophische Bewegung, die versucht, unter post-metaphysischen Vorzeichen Metaphysik und Ontologie auf radikale Weise neu zu denken. Was die ansonsten denkbar heterogene Denkströmung verbindet, ist die Ablehnung eines “Korrelationismus” Quentin Meillassoux, verstanden als die Idee, dass Denken und Sein, Subjekt und Objekt, Ich und Welt nur aus einem Verhältnis, in dem sie zueinander stehen, gedacht werden können. Das apriori einer solchen Korrelation bestimmt – so die These – das gesamte neuzeitliche Denken von Kant bis zum Poststrukturalismus auf fatale Weise, denn es verhindert ein Denken des “Realen”, der “Präsenz” jenseits der Vermittlung (etwa durch Denken, Sprache, Kultur). Als Gegenentwurf u.a. zum Lingustic Turn werden eine Object-Oriented Philosophy Graham Harman und eine neue Form des Materialismus entwickelt, die es erlauben sollen, “die Realität selbst”, das noumenale Objekt in seiner Wirksamkeit neu zu denken. Dies geschieht im kritischen wie radikalisierenden Anschluss an prominente Denker der Philosophiegeschichte wie Hume oder Heidegger. Was dadurch besser als mit der Tradition in den Blick kommen soll, sind aktuelle Probleme wie ökologische und ökonomische Krisen ebenso wie neuere Entwicklungen in den Wissenschaften (etwa in den Neurowissenschaften und in der Physik).

BLAKK KRISTMÅ$$ tags on trash bags 24/25/26 December 2012

Blakk Kristmass is a quasi consumeristic 🛒 room-installation with neo-graffiti and heaps of tags on trash bags. It’s inspired by the philosophies of new materialism and speculative realism. tags on trash bags is about love and hate but also about lost and lust. Its about the past present and future. Its about art in the artspace 💀. Its about everything, but its message is nothing. Zero. Vacant. Empty. Dead. Over. Post-contemporary. Essentially, in the cultural scene, which is falling apart, most of the time it goes like this: something very important 🆒 follows something very intelligent and closes with something 🆕 and sparkling.🥂 Nastrovje!
